Detail of Shah Abas Palmette (Kashan Design)
The overall design using this motif is attributed to the ruler Shah Abas who is said to have commissioned weavers to create a design in his name and honor. The palmette is a stylized pomegranite-like shape: these are connected in the overall pattern to serrated leaves by sweeping curved lines in elegant repeats.
