Our Showroom
Rustigian Rugsis located on the East Side of Providence at the corner of Governor and Wickenden Streets. The store is just up the hill from Adlers’ Hardware in a two story Greek revival building which was built as a bank in the mid-1920s. In all likelihood, you will seeEdie Ajello or Roz Rustigianwhen you enter our doors. Edie has been with Rustigians since 1981 and knows just about everything about rug construction, repairs and restoration. The first floor is flooded with natural light from with floor to ceiling arched windows which cover the street facing walls of the building. Marbleized columns with sconces divide the showroom into sections where rugs are stacked and hung on display racks according to size.
Ceiling mounted canvas flags identify rug sizes and all rugs except the 9 x 12s and oversized pieces are visually accessible to the serious shopper or the casual browser. A wide variety of rugs is represented in each size category and a significant portion of the inventory has been selected precisely because a similar rug can be gotten in a larger or smaller size. (These are what the trade refers to as programmed rugs). Other pieces are one-of-a-kind.
The second floor is where our broadloom samplesare displayed. Here again, the client will find a wide range of styles, colors and price points including Sisals, designer wools, axminsters, and practical and sturdy nylons.Erich Haslehurstis your "host’ and our broadloom expert with a background that includes sales and installation experience in everything from commercial carpeting to exclusive, designer specified, hand sewn wiltons. Samples are stacked in movable shelves or hung in racks that the customer can peruse with the sweep of an eye. All case goods have been designed to provide the customer or the designer and client with a convenient place to spread out building plans relevant to the project at hand. The atmosphere is casual and the sales approach friendly. We invite people to browse and to ask questions about the products and their history and production. We like to have a dialogue with our customers and enthusiastically enjoy a lively exchange of questions and answers about why one rug is better than another or why one rug is priced higher than another. There are always reasons behind, for example, pricing in the oriental rug business and we like to strip out the usual nonsense that prevails in the rug industry and give concise and clear information devoid of that "incense and mysticism" approach. |
